Technical Bulletin EB-100 applies to all Oracle detectors with firmware versions prior to xx.38.

Originally posted 7/12/2020

Product

All Oracle detectors, including Shelf and Rack mount styles

Scope

This bulletin applies to all Oracle detectors programmed with firmware versions prior to xx.38.

Issue

Units in question may suffer from a “Checksum Error” when powered on. Product update is OPTIONAL if this issue is not present. Not all Oracles with firmware revisions prior to xx.38 exhibit this behavior and operate normally.

Root Cause

High temperatures can delay the writing to internal flash memory of the microprocessor, and this delay is not handled correctly by firmware versions prior to xx.38

Operational

When this failure occurs, the detector enters and remains in a failure mode with the call and fault signals asserted, usually accompanied by the display “Checksum Error”. The failure may go

away temporarily upon reset but will most likely resume the fault at a later time.

Corrective Action

Return to EDI for the firmware update and testing at no cost. EDI will pay return freight.

A factory firmware update is required for failed units.
