[EDI] How do I get a sequence file from a monitor with ECcom?
This article discusses how to get a sequence file from a monitor using ECcom via serial or Ethernet.
This videos below use the SSM 12LE monitor to demonstrate how to retrieve a signal sequence file from a monitor using a serial cable or Ethernet.
Serial
- Install ECcom: Download and install the software.
- Connect the monitor: Use a straight-through DB9 serial cable and power the monitor. In ECcom, select the correct COM port through Communication → Set Ports, with no parity and a baud rate of 9600. Verify communication.
- Retrieve diagnostic data: Read the monitor configuration, DIP switch settings, program-card jumpers, and status information. Use Get All Logs to retrieve five logs, including a comprehensive log.
- Save files: Save the comprehensive log separately and save the signal sequence file as an
.ssqfile for later analysis or sharing. - Analyze faults: Open the
.ssqfile in ECcom to review signal activity leading up to a monitor trip. The file shows approximately 30 seconds of signal history before the trip, allowing you to review the sequence of signal indications. - Identify signal problems: The video demonstrates a skipped-yellow fault, where a signal transitions directly from green to red. The sequence history helps identify unusual transitions, rapid flashing, and other potential controller-related issues.
The signal sequence file provides a time-based record of intersection signal activity before a monitor fault. Retrieving and saving this file gives technical support and engineering a valuable diagnostic tool for investigating intermittent signal problems without relying solely on the fault code
Ethernet
- Install ECcom: Download and install the software.
- Connect to the monitor: Connect Ethernet and power, then use Setup → Port Settings → Search to discover the monitor. Select it and test the connection.
- Retrieve diagnostic data: Read the monitor configuration, DIP switch settings, and program-card information. Select Get All Logs to retrieve five logs, including the comprehensive log.
- Save files: Save the comprehensive log separately and save the signal sequence file with the
.ssqextension so it can be reviewed or emailed for support. - Analyze faults: Open an
.ssqfile in ECcom to review approximately 30 seconds of signal activity before the monitor tripped. - Identify signal issues: The example shows a skipped-yellow fault, where a signal transitions directly from green to red. The sequence history helps identify unusual transitions, rapid flashing, and potential controller-related problems.
ECcom’s Ethernet connection makes it possible to retrieve monitor logs and signal sequence history for remote troubleshooting. The .ssq file is particularly useful for diagnosing intermittent intersection faults because it shows what the signal indications were doing immediately before the monitor tripped.
