Bus Interface Unit (BIU) FAQ
What is a BIU?
The BIU-Bus Interface Unit is a device that connects the Controller Unit and other devices in a NEMA TS-2 Cabinet Assembly for traffic signal control.
What standards must BIUs meet?
All EDI/Reno BIUs meet the NEMA TS2-2003 standard for the BIU configuration, and can operate in different modes depending on the Address Select inputs.
Are there different types of BIUs?
EDI/Reno has various BIU models that offer different features, such as detector rack communication and front panel communication ports. The BIU-700H is a half-width model for space-saving purposes.
What features do BIUs come with?
- Front panel indicators that show the power status and the SDLC Port 1 activity.
- Input and output specifications that define the voltage, current, impedance, and logic states of the signals. It also has optically isolated inputs for safety and noise immunity.
- The BIU-700 series includes a 15 pin metal shell āDā sub miniature type connector for SDLC Port 1, which is compatible with a standard 15 pin D type connector.
