How do I find out which port Windows has assigned my USB to serial adapter cable?
This article discusses how to determine which com port to use in ECcom based on the assignment by Windows.
Procedure
- Connect the serial to USB adapter cable to your PC.
- Hold the Windows key + R to open up the Run dialog box.
- Type "reg query HKLM\HARDWARE\DEVICEMAP\SERIALCOMM" and hit enter.
- Look for a device labelled as "ProlificSerial0" or similar. The COM port will be shown to the right.
- In this case Windows has assigned COM20. Your port number will vary.
- Open ECcom.
- Navigate to Setup —> Comm Port —> Settings.
- Ensure EIA-232 is selected.
- Change the COM Port Number to the one identified in step 4. Leave all other settings to the default values.
- Click OK to connect.
